Senator Marci Francisco was first elected to the Kansas Senate in 2004, where she represents the state’s 2nd District. Since that time, she has become one of the state’s leading advocates on women’s issues, the environment, and education.
Marci, a lifelong Kansan, has family ties to Lawrence that run deep. Her great-grandfather had a livery business on the 800 block of Vermont and was elected as the first Democratic Mayor of Lawrence in 1914. After graduating with a degree in Environmental Design from the University of Kansas, Marci taught for a year at KU, then the only woman on the faculty, and then worked for two years in London in the architecture office for London Transport, the only woman out of 119 draftspersons.
